WORKFLOW, FIELD OPERATIONS & OFFLINE APPLICATIONS

Many business operations involve much more than simple data entry. They include planning, assignments, approvals, status transitions, exceptions, deadlines, follow-ups and different levels of responsibility.

I design applications that turn these processes into controlled workflows, making it clear what has been planned, what has been executed, what remains outstanding and what action should follow.

When work takes place away from the office, the same operational model can extend to field applications for visits, data collection, execution and synchronisation. Where continuous connectivity cannot be assumed, applications can operate with local offline data and controlled synchronisation with the central system.

DATA INTEGRATION, VALIDATION & MANAGEMENT INFORMATION

In real information environments, data often comes from different applications, with different codes, formats, structures, update frequencies and levels of quality.

I develop mechanisms for data acquisition, mapping, validation, normalisation and controlled processing, including staging, master-data mappings, exception handling, consistency checks and controlled reprocessing where required.

The goal is not simply to move data from one system to another, but to create reliable shared information that can be used by operational applications, reporting, management information or BI environments.

A key consideration is the ability to integrate existing systems without requiring the organisation to replace its entire information infrastructure.

INFORMATION, DIGITAL LIBRARIES & KNOWLEDGE SYSTEMS

I have extensive experience in managing structured bibliographic, scientific and cultural information.

This expertise includes bibliographic databases, structured metadata, UNIMARC cataloguing, indexing and information retrieval, digital libraries, publishing digitised books and documents on the Web and CD-ROM, digital publishing and academic portals.

In systems of this kind, the objective is not simply to store digital content. It is to organise and process it so that it can be searched, cross-referenced, presented and used effectively by different categories of users.

The value of an information system does not end with its initial delivery. In many cases, the most important phase of technical responsibility begins when the application enters production and must continue serving the organisation as requirements, data and infrastructure change.

Relevant expertise includes continuous development, production support, controlled modernisation, data migration, integration with new systems and adaptation to new technology infrastructure while maintaining operational continuity.

The aim is to preserve the business knowledge already embedded in the software and, where technically and operationally appropriate, evolve the system rather than replace it by default.

APPROACH

TECHNOLOGY AS A MEANS, NOT A CONSTRAINT

Technology choices follow the needs of the system, its expected lifecycle and the information environment in which it will operate.

Long experience does not mean attachment to old technologies. For a new project, I select modern platforms, architectures and tools based on the actual requirements, reliability, maintainability and room for future evolution.

For an existing system, complete replacement is not necessarily the right choice. I assess what is worth retaining, what needs modernisation and how integrations, migrations or other technology changes can be made with controlled operational risk, without losing the business knowledge already embedded in the software.

Experience across different generations of applications, databases and architectures helps make precisely this distinction. Technology is a tool. What matters is that the solution is functional, reliable, maintainable and appropriate for the environment in which it is used.
